Overall Purpose of the Job

As an Aircraft Installer, you will be responsible for the manufacture and installation of electrical looms and associated equipment into aircraft undergoing modification. Working as part of a diverse, multi-skilled team, you will collaborate closely with our in-house Part-21 design team to produce bespoke role equipment and customized options for a range of clients, including the MOD and VVIPs. A keen attention to detail, pride in your work, and ownership of tasks are essential to meet customer expectations. You will also play a key role in maintaining the safety and airworthiness of helicopters within the Installations department.

Main Responsibilities

  • Accomplish assigned work as directed by the Installation Supervisor or Certifying Engineer.
  • Maintain high standards to ensure the continued safe operation of aircraft.
  • Manufacture electrical looms and avionic systems in accordance with design data.
  • Conduct off-aircraft work in workshops as required.
  • Assist in the day-to-day running of the hangar, including aircraft handling.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping in line with the Airbus “Clean As You Go” initiative.
  • Demonstrate a flexible working attitude to manage changing departmental priorities.
  • Operate within a highly regulated environment.
  • Remove and refit panels and cowlings to helicopters and equipment.
  • Collaborate closely with the design office.
  • Carry out repairs to aircraft wiring looms and avionic systems.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential:

  • Ability to work effectively within a team and on your own initiative.
  • Ability to work to high standards to ensure continued safe aircraft operation.
  • Capability to work in confined spaces.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems.
  • Basic understanding of test equipment usage (e.g., AVO).
  • Interest in DIY.
  • Understanding of soldering and crimping techniques for wiring connections.
  • Basic understanding of wiring diagrams and/or production processes.
  • Ability to adhere to Health & Safety requirements, including wearing appropriate PPE.
  • Positive approach and genuine enthusiasm for the role.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Reliability and ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Well-organized, methodical, with a high attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Google Office and Microsoft products.

Desirable:

  • Ability to use SAP / Envision.
  • Experience in loom building or installation.
  • Troubleshooting and fault-finding experience.

Education, Qualifications or Training

Essential:

  • Minimum Level 2 Qualification in electrical engineering or a similar field.
  • Experience in the Automotive, Aviation, Marine, or other transport industry.
  • Ability to produce a portfolio of work.
  • Clean driving licence.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working in an aviation environment.

Additional Requirements

  • Shift working may be required as part of a normal working pattern, with a shift allowance payable.
  • Occasional travel to subcontractors or other Airbus facilities, including overseas, may be necessary.
