Business Domain Architect (Edgewing)

We are seeking a Data Engineering and Architecture Manager to lead and drive the successful delivery of complex data and technology initiatives within a highly regulated environment. This managerial position involves leading a team responsible for underpinning data activities across the business, ensuring data is treated as a valuable asset – trusted, securely shared, and visible to all who need it. You will collaborate closely with functional and value stream leads to align data architecture with programme and business objectives.

Core Duties:

  • Setting technical direction, conducting code and design reviews, and providing architectural guidance.
  • Collaborating with Chief Architect and Enterprise Architecture Disciplines (Business and Applications) to ensure comprehensive data consideration.
  • Responsibility for the delivery of Data Models and supporting the creation of Data Dictionaries and Glossaries across the business.
  • Aligning the Data & Insights data architecture and engineering needs with business objectives and Digital Information strategies.
  • Defining and maintaining enterprise data architecture standards, patterns, and best practices.
  • Designing scalable, secure, and high-performance data platforms, including data lakes, data warehouses, and streaming systems.
  • Working across teams in Data & Insights, as well as platform and engineering delivery teams, to ensure the implementation and maintenance of data governance and data management tooling.

Essential Skills:

  • Proven experience in data engineering, data architecture, or related roles.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Ability to manage complex delivery plans, timelines, and cross-team dependencies.
  • Comfort working with delivery tooling like Jira, Azure DevOps, or Confluence.
  • Understanding of modern data systems, software development lifecycles, and technical constraints within regulated industries.

Location: Reading area. The role could be contracted to any BAE Systems Air site (preferably Frimley) but will commence with an assignment to our Edgewing JV in the Reading area. Financial support may be available for this assignment if required and subject to certain criteria. Edgewing operates a Hybrid Working Policy; please discuss options with your recruiter.
