Engineering Design Manager

As an Engineering Design Manager, you will lead the delivery of intricate engineering design solutions that form the foundation of critical defence and infrastructure programmes. Within our Facilities Engineering team, you will serve as a technical authority and trusted advisor, ensuring all designs are safe, compliant, and fit for purpose across both nuclear and non-nuclear environments.
This role offers a unique opportunity to influence major engineering projects from their initial concept through to their final completion, all within a highly regulated, safety-critical setting. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, drive performance improvements, and foster capability development, accelerating your leadership career while contributing to projects that safeguard national security and support essential public infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leading the technical delivery of engineering design projects from concept through to handover.
- Managing design scope, resources, risks, and delivery to meet quality, time, and budget requirements.
- Acting as the technical authority and primary point of contact for all design-related activities.
- Coordinating internal and external stakeholders to successfully deliver complex design solutions.
- Ensuring designs meet all safety, regulatory, and operational requirements throughout their lifecycle.
This is a full-time, permanent role working 35 hours per week. We offer hybrid working arrangements, requiring a minimum of 2 days per week in the office/onsite, with the remainder of your working week from home.
Essential Experience:
- A strong technical background within engineering, construction, or infrastructure environments.
- Proven experience in managing the design lifecycle and effectively solving complex engineering challenges.
- Understanding of design and safety requirements within regulated or safety-critical industries.
- The ability to engage and influence stakeholders across multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills, coupled with a proactive approach.
Qualifications:
- A degree in a STEM subject or equivalent relevant experience.
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, or actively working towards professional registration.
- Membership of a relevant professional engineering institution is desirable.
Security Clearance:
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
