About the Role
As a Principal Fire Safety Engineer (Assurance) within BAE Systems' independent assurance organisation, you will play a crucial role in evaluating the company's fire safety performance at the Barrow site. This position offers the opportunity to provide independent assurance that fire safety risks are effectively identified and controlled, ensuring compliance with UK legislation.
Key Responsibilities
- Performing independent inspection and surveillance of fire safety on facilities and plant equipment, both on-board and on-site, to evaluate fire safety performance.
- Conducting regulatory inspections of company management systems, with a primary focus on fire safety compliance.
- Inspecting and assessing the business’s capability to progress submarine build and/or projects within the Site Redevelopment Programme through the ‘Hold Point Control’ process.
- Inspecting the business against the requirements of relevant legislation to assess the level of compliance.
- Assessing the adequacy of fire prevention strategies and facility fire risk assessments for both existing and new facilities.
- Communicating, both in writing and verbally, the conclusions of inspections and their findings to various stakeholders at all levels, including external regulators, board members, senior managers, and business peers.
About You
You will be a competent fire safety professional with a demonstrated working knowledge of UK fire safety legislation. A strong understanding of fire safety principles and fire risk assessment methodologies is essential, along with the ability to evaluate fire risks in a high hazard environment. You should also be able to interpret engineering and safety case documentation and have experience engaging and influencing senior management and external regulators.
