Satellite Communications Engineer

Join Babcock as a Satellite Communications Engineer in Colerne, near Chippenham, Wiltshire, and contribute to keeping the UK’s secure satellite communications operational. As part of our Mission Systems team, you will support the critical satellite communication networks relied upon by the UK's Armed Forces, directly impacting national security.

The Role

This integral role within the escalation team for the Satellite Communications Network involves undertaking both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. You will be instrumental in providing solutions to complex engineering problems, ensuring the continuous operation of vital communication systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete routine and scheduled maintenance according to work orders, maintenance schedules, and support documentation.
  • Drive reactive maintenance activities and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Report, diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve system alarms and anomalies.
  • Produce comprehensive fault reports and meticulously record all maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders and operational support teams to guarantee the effective delivery of satellite and communication services.

This is a full-time, permanent position, 37 hours per week, based on-site at Colerne, with potential for flexible working arrangements.

Essential Experience:

  • A solid technical background in electronics, engineering, networking, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in fixing and maintaining communications or network equipment.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload effectively, with capacity for autonomous working.
  • Understanding and practical experience in maintaining high-power RF (Radio Frequency) transmission and antenna systems.
  • Proficiency in working with cables, antennas, and performing technical fault-finding.

Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 3 or above in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or relevant equivalent experience.
  • A full UK driving licence.

Security Clearance:

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance. Applicants must be a Sole UK national.
