In this Senior Software Engineer role, you will be responsible for leading the technical delivery of exciting projects. The EGIS team develops a wide range of products, from desktop applications to critical at-sea systems utilised by the Royal Navy.

You will provide essential technical direction, coach and develop fellow engineers, and ensure the delivery of high-quality software across multiple workstreams. Working closely with the Engineering Manager, you will help shape priorities, foster engineering excellence, and guarantee the team delivers secure, reliable, and mission-critical capabilities to the fleet.

  • Contribute to planning, estimation, and reporting activities, working with the management team to establish realistic schedules and communicate progress effectively.
  • Engage with EGIS customers and end users as required to facilitate the development of EGIS Programmes and the ongoing evolution of EGIS products.
  • Drive performance improvements by capturing, analysing, and acting upon system measurements.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Significant experience working within a Software Engineering Environment.
  • Proven team leadership experience, including managing work and reporting on costs.
  • Demonstrated background in software product development and/or delivery, ideally within a large, complex multi-project environment.
  • Experience in developing software within the Engineering Lifecycle.
  • An academic qualification in Engineering or a related STEM subject is expected for engineers at all levels.
  • Encouragement and support will be provided to achieve relevant professional accreditation, such as Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status.

The EGIS Team and Your Contribution

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a collaborative team working on the Meteorology and Oceanography (METOC) System. You will be involved in managing manual input and the automatic collection and measurement of environmental parameters from environmental sensors.

You will play a pivotal role in the delivery of the METOC system to the Type 26 Batch 2 and Hunter (Australia) programmes, based from our Dorchester office. This role operates on a hybrid basis, with 4 days per week required on-site.
