About the Role

As a core Systems Engineer (Installations) at BAE Systems, you will be instrumental in the full lifecycle management of Information Technology and Telecommunications solutions. This pivotal role demands leadership in technical delivery, from initial requirements analysis and costed solution design through to integration, implementation, and commissioning. You will work on both reference facilities and customer sites, ensuring every system is built, configured, and documented to the highest engineering standards.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead the technical delivery of IT and Telecommunications solutions across their entire lifecycle.
  • Conduct requirements analysis and develop costed solution designs.
  • Manage integration, implementation, and commissioning activities on site.
  • Produce and maintain high-quality engineering artefacts, including detailed design drawings and installation documentation.
  • Create and maintain accurate 'As Fitted' records for all installations.
  • Define and execute rigorous test schedules, including managing entry/exit criteria and performance validation.
  • Oversee ongoing system maintenance, upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Take ownership of work package delivery, ensuring all engineering outputs meet agreed scope, quality, and timelines.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Proven experience in designing, implementing, and commissioning Information Technology and Telecommunications systems.
  • Hold a degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant Engineering subject.
  • Demonstrate understanding and practical application of the Defence Information & Communication Technology (ICT) Standard.
  • Possess understanding and practical application of BS 7671:2018 Requirements for Electrical Installations.
  • Understanding of Electromagnetic Security (TEMPEST) and its application to secure systems and installations is beneficial.

The Systems Team

This is a long-term appointment within a dedicated team of 45 specialists. You will support a fully integrated command and control system for the MoD, contributing to an exciting systems and software programme that spans multiple disciplines including design, development, installation, implementation, integration, acceptance, training, and logistics support. The programme is delivered from our Christchurch site, supporting our customer across various MoD locations.

Location and Travel

The primary location for this role is Christchurch (onsite, contractual base). The role requires weekly travel to Greater London and Buckinghamshire. Candidates may be based in the Midlands, the South, or the South East, provided they can consistently meet these weekly travel requirements.
