Airbus Helicopters UK is the MoD's chosen provider of helicopters and maintenance for the No.1 Helicopter Flying School (MFTS) at RAF Shawbury and RAF Valley.

Overall Purpose of the Job

As a Technical Author for Airbus Helicopters UK (AHUK), your primary responsibility will be the creation and meticulous control of task cards and work cards. These documents are essential for engineers and technicians to follow when performing their duties. You will collaborate closely with maintenance managers, planning engineers, and hangar floor staff to extract key task milestones and format them into clear, logical, and easy-to-understand documents that facilitate the correct execution of tasks.

Main Responsibilities

  • Translation: Convert complex tasks from sources such as the Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM) or Service Bulletins (SBs) into clear, sequential, and detailed task cards.
  • Version Control: Ensure that the shop floor consistently uses the latest revision of produced workcards, thereby eliminating the risk of working with superseded or outdated data.
  • Usability Testing: Conduct physical validation of workcards alongside technicians to confirm that the instructions are executable within the actual work environment, considering factors like tool accessibility and torque sequences.
  • Review and Continuous Improvement: Work collaboratively with key users to continuously enhance the accuracy and validity of the data presented in the documentation.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential:

  • Experience with complex engineering processes.
  • Ability to understand, extract, and write technical instructions in clear English.
  • IT literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and GSuite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Thorough attention to detail.
  • The ability to think clearly using logic and reasoning.
  • Proper and effective administration skills.
  • The ability to engage with key stakeholders, compile information, and produce clear document sets that encapsulate key themes and ideas.

Desirable:

  • Aviation experience as a maintainer.
  • Knowledge of Part 145 and Part-CAMO regulations.
  • Exposure to maintenance planning.
  • Knowledge of Envision software.

Education, Qualifications or Training

Essential:

  • Engineering qualification (Level 3 equivalent or above).

Desirable:

  • Part 145 / Part CAMO familiarisation training.
  • Aviation industry training.

Additional Requirements

Due to the nature of this position, you will require DBS Security Clearance and be eligible for SC clearance. Applicants must meet any/all requirements of Export Compliance Regulations.
