About the Role
An exciting opportunity awaits a Structures Test Technologist to join the Airbus Structures Test organisation in the UK, based at the Aerospace Integrated Research and Test Centre in Filton.
This role is crucial in supporting serial programmes and research & development activities within the Materials, Processes and Test domain. You will be instrumental in developing new test rigs, methods, processes, and tools for a wide range of Airbus Aircraft Programmes and R&T initiatives, including groundbreaking work on Digital Hybrid Testing and Zero Emissions aircraft.
Your Contribution to the Team
- Work on critical structural tests across the full test pyramid, from Level 6 (Material Coupons) to Level 2 (Large Structural Assemblies), and other vital business projects.
- Ensure adherence to the Structures Test Process and all transnational processes, methods, and tools.
- Design and set up control and data acquisition systems for test rigs.
- Design and set up hydraulic loading systems for test rigs.
- Conduct structural tests and perform equipment calibration.
- Apply Full Field Measurement techniques, including Digital Image Correlation, photogrammetry, and thermoelastic stress analysis.
- Engage in advanced data analytics and correlations, with integration into digital toolsets.
- Deliver technical specialisms, often combining hands-on laboratory work with office-based tasks.
- Provide assistance for structural tests as required.
- Communicate and report progress to the test leader and customers.
- Coordinate internal and external contributors, stakeholders, and suppliers.
- Launch subcontracting activities in line with policy, including purchasing and goods receipt.
- Participate actively in test centre and weekly team meetings.
- Network and support the development of transnational Test Technologies capabilities.
About You
- Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in mechanical engineering or a related discipline (e.g., Aerospace, Structures, Materials, Systems, Physics).
- Extensive experience in project management and delivering projects on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
- Proven experience in one of the following disciplines: aeronautical structures, control systems, or structural testing.
- Experience in structures, materials, or systems testing is advantageous.
- Experience in managing suppliers or participating in supplier selection is advantageous.
- Experience or a keen interest in Digital topics / Hybrid Testing & Simulation.
- Proficient in English at a negotiation level; other languages would be a bonus.
- Knowledge of Control Systems Design, Maintenance, and Operation.
- Knowledge of Hydraulics System Design and Operation.
- Experience operating both standard test machines and bespoke test rigs.
- Proficiency in Data Acquisition.
- Broad knowledge and an innovative approach to conventional and emerging methods of applying loads and deflections.
- Familiarity with load cells and other measurement devices.
