About the Role

As an Acoustic Stealth Scientist at QinetiQ's Farnborough site, you will be instrumental in shaping the future of defence and security through the development of advanced acoustic stealth technologies. This role offers the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art facilities and collaborate with leading experts in a dynamic and innovative environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise in acoustic physics and metamaterials to support the modelling and design of acoustic stealth materials.
  • Lead and contribute to modelling, data analysis, and materials characterisation activities across various research and development projects.
  • Support project delivery by collaborating with project managers to ensure timely and budget-conscious completion of outputs.
  • Design and conduct acoustic experiments and trials, including the setup and operation of specialised equipment.
  • Offer technical guidance to multidisciplinary teams and effectively communicate findings and requirements to customers.

Essential Experience and Qualifications

  • Demonstrable expertise in acoustic physics and/or mechanical or acoustic metamaterials.
  • Experience in analytical modelling and simulation using tools such as MATLAB or similar.
  • Knowledge and experience of finite element modelling tools such as COMSOL.
  • Proven ability to lead technical tasks and deliver work to time, cost, and quality requirements.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and collaborative skills, with experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
  • A Degree or PhD in Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related discipline, with relevant industry or laboratory experience.
