About the Role
Join BAE Systems and become a vital part of our submarine delivery team as a Procurement Professional – Expeditor. In this hybrid role, based in Barrow-in-Furness, you will be responsible for all aspects of supply chain activity, focusing on cost, quality, and schedule performance. You will oversee the end-to-end delivery execution and manage the order book for the procurement of base spares and carried onboard spares.
You will provide expert supply chain guidance in line with corporate policy, ensuring business requirements, governance standards, and performance objectives are consistently met. This role is crucial in driving operational excellence across the procurement function.
Core Duties
- Expediting open orders with an agreed range of suppliers, ensuring parts are delivered on time and in full as per purchase orders and contracts.
- Building and maintaining strong supplier relationships through regular communication and site visits.
- Proactively identifying potential delays, resolving them with suppliers and third parties to minimize overall programme delay, and escalating issues when necessary.
- Supporting suppliers with capacity planning and rescheduling to align with the build programme, working with stakeholders to consider all programmes.
- Working closely with Buyers to provide support for current blockers and facilitating meetings to ensure on-time delivery.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Proven experience as a supply chain practitioner with a strong understanding of supply chain principles, theory, and best practices.
- Excellent ability to engage, influence, and build effective relationships with suppliers, Buyers, and cross-functional teams.
- Understanding of how procurement activities support broader business processes, systems, and governance frameworks.
- Demonstrated project management capability, organizational skills, time management, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Flexibility to travel within the UK, occasionally at short notice.
The Team
You will join the collaborative Initial Provisioning Base Spares Team, situated at the heart of submarine delivery. This team is responsible for sourcing both base spares and carried-onboard spares across all platforms. The role provides broad shipyard exposure, allowing you to engage through every stage of the build cycle and partner with a diverse range of functions and stakeholders. Navigating multiple suppliers, varied equipment categories, and different procurement processes makes this a dynamic environment offering significant opportunities for growth and development.
