About the Role

Boeing Defence UK (BDUK) is seeking an experienced Manager to join our MoD IS Project Management, Delivery and PMO team in Bristol. This pivotal role involves line managing Project Managers, offering support for escalated issues, and leading a team of approximately 15 permanent staff. You will collaborate with the Authority and end Customer to support the delivery of changes for the MoD IS Programme.

This position is key to driving program success within a SAFe Agile framework and fulfilling Schedule 22 bid activity obligations. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, agile expertise, and stakeholder management skills to ensure effective project and bid delivery while meeting contractual requirements and enhancing team performance.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure capabilities meet BtG Contract requirements and SLAs/KPIs, proactively managing issues and devising contingency plans.
  • Task and manage Project Managers to deliver new requirements or changes within their scope.
  • Communicate expectations openly and engagingly to team members.
  • Support the Head of Project Management in daily program management, troubleshooting, and delegated authority.
  • Provide review and approval for project gate reviews, ensuring governance and quality.
  • Chair Change Boards to support project reforecasting and accurate reporting.
  • Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the team or escalate to senior management.
  • Engage with commercial colleagues for timely resolution of disagreements.
  • Collaborate with finance colleagues for accurate reporting, invoicing, and project closure.
  • Chair internal and external RIO boards for efficient issue resolution or escalation.
  • Manage third-party suppliers to achieve service levels and desired outcomes.
  • Negotiate with other MoD IS managers for personnel requisition or loan.
  • Actively manage opportunities, risks, and issues.
  • Produce governance inputs in accordance with the BtG Contract and MoD IS operational regime.
  • Provide Project Management guidance to Project Managers for escalated issues.
  • Maintain a strong customer-centric approach, addressing customer needs and expectations, partnering with customer L5/6s weekly.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, providing feedback to enhance collaboration and performance.
  • Facilitate the resolution of complex issues using appropriate policies, procedures, and tools.

What We're Looking For

We are seeking a technically professional, enthusiastic, and hands-on individual with excellent communication skills. You should be confident in interacting with seniors, peers, and subordinates, possess commercial awareness, customer focus, and people management skills. The ability to meet Contract SLAs and KPIs with on-time delivery, cost, and quality is essential. Proficiency in MS Office tools and a willingness to learn new applications are also required.

Basic Qualifications

  • Leadership experience in complex projects and/or teams.
  • At least one year of experience in a leadership role (team leader, temporary manager, large-scale cross-functional project/program management, or formal manager experience) OR completion of the Boeing internal course “Exploring Leadership”.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a people manager overseeing a team delivering large, complex IT programs/projects throughout their lifecycle.
  • Project Management experience, ideally with a recognized technology or program management accreditation and a proven track record of delivering complex live services and projects/programmes.
  • Significant experience in Defence or Government information management/delivery is desirable.
  • Exceptional planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Working knowledge of SAFe Agile methodologies.
  • Strong ability to build and maintain relationships with team members and stakeholders.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • ITIL knowledge is desirable but not essential.
