About the Role

As a Senior Manufacturing Engineer within the Build Strategy team at BAE Systems, you will play a crucial role in supporting the SSNA programme. This position offers the opportunity to leverage experience and learnings from the successful Dreadnought and Astute programmes, contributing to the development and optimisation of submarine build strategies.

You will work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders and senior leaders, ensuring that Manufacturing has a significant voice within the Design community. Your efforts will be instrumental in enabling designs to be built in the most effective and efficient way possible.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Support the development and optimisation of submarine build strategies within the SSNA programme.
  • Integrate learning and best practice from Dreadnought and Astute programmes into current strategies.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Projects, and Engineering teams to ensure designs are deliverable, manufacturable, and aligned to build objectives.
  • Liaise with Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Projects, and Supply Chain to resolve issues arising during the design phases.
  • Apply problem-solving tools and techniques, from PFMEA to design for manufacture, during the design phases.
  • Capture lessons learned from build activities and integrate them into system design and build strategy to prevent recurrence.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Minimum HNC or equivalent experience in a STEM discipline.
  • Good understanding of engineering drawings and CAD models.
  • Experience and understanding of system design and build processes.
  • Proven experience engaging with cross-functional stakeholders to resolve engineering and planning issues.
  • Familiarity with SAP / Teamcenter.
  • Understanding of submarine build strategy.
