About the Role
The Subcontract Manager role is part of the Lockheed Martin UK Global Supply Chain Organisation, based at our Advanced Manufacturing Facility in Ampthill, Bedfordshire. This position offers a 4xFlex working pattern, comprising a 4-day working week (Monday–Thursday) and hybrid working arrangements (onsite Monday-Tuesday, home Wednesday-Thursday, subject to business needs).
You will be accountable for the successful execution of a diverse portfolio of major subcontracts across Complex Platform Systems, Platform Integration, Special Projects, and Weapons areas, meeting both domestic and international programme and business requirements. Lockheed Martin UK (Ampthill) operates with a worldwide supply base, primarily in the UK, Europe, Middle East, and the US.
Opportunities exist to develop comprehensive supply chain strategies and solutions to support bids and proposals within the Defence Sector and commercial environments as the business grows. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, determined, committed, and a confident self-starter with the ability to drive and implement change. You will be a team player with proven management ability in a multi-functional organisation, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and exceptional stakeholder management ability. Flexibility to travel within the UK and abroad is required.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
- Supplier Relationship & Stakeholder Management and Strategic understanding.
- Membership and potential management of subordinate teams overseeing supplier cost, schedule, and technical performance on moderate-to-high-risk subcontracts for commercial, MOD, and international programs.
- Collaboration within multi-functional subcontract management teams, including quality, engineering, and other supply chain personnel.
- Holding procurement delegation and signing supplier agreements and purchase orders.
- Developing subcontract specifications, work statements, and terms and conditions for specialised materials, equipment, and services using multiple contract types.
- Selecting or recommending subcontractors and preparing subcontract packages.
- Preparing, awarding, and managing resulting subcontracts and associated change activities.
Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
- Demonstrable experience as a Subcontract Manager or Supply Chain Manager.
- Ability to manage multiple suppliers to meet cost, schedule, and technical performance requirements of highly complex subcontracts.
- Outstanding Programme Management, Commercial, Financial, and Technical management acumen.
- Capability to identify and mitigate risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.
- Proven success in working in multi-functional organisations.
- Ability to achieve delivery to tight schedules in a dynamic work environment.
Desired Skills:
- Supply chain experience in the defence sector.
- Experience as a supply chain professional in developing subcontracts to support new business, including bids and captures for complex items and systems.
- Application of Earned Value Management.
- Knowledge of SAP (or similar) ERP systems.
- Commercial Acumen – CIPS qualification preferred but not mandatory.
