Assistant Engineering Manager
This role is central to Project Hopper, a crucial initiative focused on obsolescence updates for the Shared Infrastructure and Combat Management System. Reporting to the Hopper Engineering Manager, you will play a key part in delivering this vital programme, which impacts both the T26 Build Programme and the RECODE In-Service Technical Refresh Programme, encompassing both hardware and software updates.
You will work closely with the Hopper Engineering Manager and Technical Authority to ensure the efficient and robust delivery of the engineering scope. This includes active involvement in the unique Hopper governance model that steers product development. As a key member of the Hopper team, you will contribute to ensuring the solution meets the required levels of assurance, reliability, and performance necessary to achieve project objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Technical Authority and Engineering Manager in managing Project Engineering activities, providing direction on overall project delivery.
- Manage the planning of engineering tasks within the project and contribute to product-level planning.
- Identify, assess, and manage risks to project success.
- Support interactions with the Project Technical Council and a complex stakeholder network.
- Prepare for and support design review assessments of the Project.
Skills and Experience Required:
- Experience in systems or software engineering delivery with strong knowledge of engineering governance processes.
- Ability to manage complex technical issues and make engineering judgements with support from subject matter experts.
- Good problem-solving skills for routine or moderately complex situations.
- A good understanding of stakeholder management and its application to project benefit.
- A relevant engineering or STEM qualification is expected, along with appropriate academic or professional credentials. Support will be provided for achieving Incorporated or Chartered status. Candidates who are already professionally registered will be preferred.
About Project Hopper:
Project Hopper is a technology refresh programme for the Shared Infrastructure (SI) and Combat Management System (CMS) products. The team is integrating the latest technologies and working practices to create a modern, high-performance product designed to support the entire surface ships fleet.
This role offers excellent visibility across the wider business, engaging regularly with the MoD, key suppliers, and internal stakeholders. You will have great opportunities for skill and knowledge development, with potential for future growth and opportunities within the organisation.
Location and Working Arrangements:
The role is based in New Malden, Broad Oak, with a hybrid working arrangement requiring 3 days per week onsite.
Salary is circa £50,000, dependent on skills and experience.
