Test Automation Engineer
BAE Systems Digital Intelligence is seeking a talented Test Automation Engineer to join our team in Leeds. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and evolution of our products by designing, building, and implementing automated test solutions. This hybrid role requires 1-2 days per week in our Leeds office, with potential travel to other sites as needed.
What you’ll be doing:
- Design and build reusable automated test solutions that support continuous product evolution.
- Collaborate with developers to shape clean, testable code from the outset.
- Partner with platform engineers to integrate testing into modern Continuous Delivery pipelines.
- Analyse requirements and create meaningful, high-impact test cases (functional, performance, and security).
- Contribute to shared learning by reviewing test artefacts and supporting peers.
- Investigate and overcome challenges to deliver quality outcomes on time—without compromising standards.
- Take ownership of test results—refining and improving test suites as products evolve.
- Advocate for quality by ensuring appropriate unit and integration testing coverage.
- Use exploratory testing techniques when needed to uncover deeper insights.
- Clearly communicate how features are tested, building shared understanding across engineering teams.
Your skills and experiences:
- Experience working in Agile environments.
- Hands-on experience with test automation tools (e.g. Selenium, Cucumber).
- Familiarity with API testing tools (e.g. REST Assured).
- Experience testing user interfaces and large datasets.
- Working knowledge of Java and SQL.
Other Desirable Skills:
- Collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence, GitHub.
- Exposure to BDD / TDD practices.
- Awareness of accessibility standards and inclusive design.
- Experience or interest in AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka, Postgres.
