About the Role

At Babcock, we are dedicated to creating a safe and secure world. As a Buyer based at our Devonport Royal Dockyard site, you will be instrumental in supporting major nuclear infrastructure and defence programmes. Your role will involve sourcing and procuring essential materials, plant, and equipment, ensuring all procurement activities are conducted efficiently and adhere to strict safety, quality, regulatory, and commercial standards, all while aligning with project schedules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Source and procure materials, plant, equipment, and services critical to infrastructure and construction projects.
  • Prepare and issue requests for quotation and purchase orders in accordance with established procurement plans.
  • Evaluate supplier tenders based on technical, commercial, quality, and delivery requirements.
  • Manage supplier performance, expedite deliveries, and actively support project milestones.
  • Collaborate effectively with project stakeholders to manage demand, identify risks, and prioritise procurement activities.

What You'll Bring

  • Proven experience in a Buyer or Procurement role, ideally within construction, infrastructure, energy, defence, or other regulated industries.
  • Demonstrable experience in sourcing materials, plant, and equipment.
  • A strong understanding of procurement processes, commercial principles, and contract terms.
  • Experience working within quality-controlled or highly regulated environments.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • A Degree, HNC, HND, or equivalent experience in Procurement, Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Working towards or holding a professional procurement qualification such as Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) is desirable.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Please note that eligibility for certain roles may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency you hold or have held, due to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.

Working Arrangements

This is a full-time, permanent role working 35 hours per week. We offer hybrid working arrangements with a minimum of 2 days spent in the office/onsite.
