About the Role
We are looking for skilled CNC Machinists to join our dynamic shift teams. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be an adaptable team player, a proactive problem solver, and an excellent communicator. Your primary responsibilities will include setting up, changing over, and operating a range of advanced CNC machines, including Mill-turn/Twin Turret, Grinding, and Sliding head machines, as well as machining centers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install and adjust work holding, tooling, and tool wear offsets for efficient machine setup and operation.
- Safely operate a range of CNC machines, ensuring productive performance and minimized downtime.
- Manage and operate multiple machines and setups simultaneously (multi-tasking).
- Properly identify, deploy, and utilize inserts, work holding, and tooling.
- Efficiently identify tool wear, adjusting or replacing cutting tools as needed.
- Verify programs and settings using various measuring and inspection equipment, applying adjustments to maintain component quality.
- Provide timely feedback on production issues and recommendations for process or quality improvements to the Line Manager.
- Electronically register and record all process operations, maintaining daily results.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the machining section.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance tasks as required.
- Maintain a high standard of housekeeping.
- Adhere strictly to company procedures and safety, health, and environmental policies.
- Support with ad-hoc tasks and reasonable requests to support the business.
- Train and mentor other machinists and apprentices on site.
Basic Qualifications:
- Time-served engineer with significant experience in setting and operating CNC machines.
- Good numeracy and literacy skills.
- Proficient IT skills.
- Effective communication, listening, and professional interpersonal skills.
- Understanding and ability to perform workshift and tool wear compensation/offsets.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Competence in performing basic mathematical computations, including trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
- Experience in performing daily cleaning and light maintenance tasks on machinery.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working to tight tolerances with a wide range of materials.
- Strong working knowledge of cutting tool setting, applications, and the use of complex fixtures.
- Ability to troubleshoot machining processes and work independently.
- Experience in training and mentoring others.
- Experience in a dynamic sub-contract machining environment.
- FLT license is desirable.
- Proven ability to reduce setup and machining times through process improvements.
- Experience in Aerospace machining and AS9100 requirements, or other highly regulated industries (medical, nuclear, automotive).
- Minimum HNC qualification in Machining.
