Combat Systems Field Support Engineer
Join BAE Systems and become a vital part of our mission to pioneer progress and protect what matters most. As a Combat Systems Field Support Engineer, you will play a crucial role in delivering advanced, technology-led defence solutions.
This position involves providing essential in-service support to Combat Management Systems (CMS) and Shared Infrastructure (SI) across a range of Royal Navy platforms, including Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers, Type 45 Destroyers, Type 23 Frigates, and future deployments on Type 26 Frigates and Type 31 Inspiration class vessels. You will be an integral part of the RECODE (Real Time Combat System Open Data Enablers) Ship Support Team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Offer engineering expertise and support to the RECODE Field Support service.
- Investigate Operational Defects (OPDEF) and system technical issues, providing engineering support through visits to Royal Navy platforms domestically and internationally.
- Deliver remote technical support via email and telephone for the RECODE in-service CMS and SI product lines.
- Diagnose and rectify electrical, network, hardware, software, and system issues, referencing technical documentation and collaborating with engineering teams.
- Configure hardware and software in preparation for platform installations and commissioning across all supported RN platforms and land-based test sites.
- Conduct platform installation and acceptance of system upgrades according to the RECODE release schedule.
About You:
We are looking for an experienced engineer with a strong background in hardware/software domains within Combat System Equipment, ideally with experience in CMS or SI systems used in the maritime environment. You will possess an academic qualification in Engineering or a related STEM subject, coupled with relevant academic or professional certification. Professional registration as EngTech or ICTTech is also required.
The RECODE Field Support Team is a dynamic, collaborative, and fast-paced environment. This customer-facing role demands adaptability to emergent and changing demands, requiring a broad range of skills and competencies. Opportunities for travel, both domestic and international, are inherent to the role. You will be implementing the latest system technology upgrades, including hardware and software installations, at the leading edge of technology within a complex and challenging domain.
