The Effectors business unit, a key part of Babcock International Group's Marine sector, is involved in exciting design, manufacture, and support projects for Sub-Surface and Surface platforms, both domestically and internationally. Employing around 600 people, our largest sites are located in Bristol, Plymouth, and Leicester.
The Role
As a Commercial Manager within our Marine sector, you will have a role that is truly out of the ordinary. You will be integral to our Effectors business unit, driving business growth and the Dreadnought contract forward.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Providing contract management and governance support to project teams.
- Undertaking negotiations and pricing activities to support organic and new growth opportunities.
- Creating and executing commercial strategies to ensure successful outcomes.
- Mentoring and guiding other commercial staff, sharing best practices, advice, and recommendations for commercial scenarios.
- Acting as the commercial point of contact for all queries from the project team.
- Leading a team of commercial staff across a range of Support contracts.
This is a full-time, permanent role working 37 hours per week. It requires regular weekly/monthly travel to our Ashton Vale, Bristol site, alongside flexible home working arrangements.
Essential Experience
- Commercially driven with the ability to identify commercial innovation and strong business awareness of customers and competitors.
- Experience in the creation of proposals for both organic growth and new opportunities.
- Demonstrable experience of managing and understanding contracts, ideally within the defence sector (though not essential).
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines critical to our customer’s mission.
- Understanding of single source contracts is highly desirable but not required.
Qualifications
- Ideally, you will hold a recognised relevant professional qualification (e.g., MCIPS, IACCM, PGCCM) or equivalent, but this is not essential.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Eligibility may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency held or previously held.
