About the Role

As a Commissioning Mechanical Test Engineer at our HMNB Clyde Faslane site, you will play a vital part in one of the UK's most critical defence programmes. This role is out of the ordinary, placing you at the heart of ensuring submarine systems are tested, calibrated, and commissioned to the highest standards, directly contributing to operational readiness and national security.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Support the Senior Test Engineer in optimizing team performance and resource utilization.
  • Conduct mechanical testing, calibration, and commissioning tasks on submarine systems.
  • Engage with contractors and internal teams to manage risks and meet commissioning goals.
  • Apply safety, quality, and environmental policies during all commissioning activities.
  • Review engineering documentation and contribute to technical problem-solving.

Essential Experience and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Proven experience in mechanical commissioning and testing.
  • The ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in high-stakes environments.
  • A strong understanding of safety and quality standards.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A recognised Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship (or equivalent), with demonstrable industry experience, or an HNC in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent), supported by relevant practical experience.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Eligibility may be affected by place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and residency.

This is a full-time, permanent position, 36 hours per week, Monday to Thursday, based on site at HMNB Clyde Faslane.
