The Role: Composites Engineer

As a Composites Engineer, you will be responsible for a range of activities focused on the verification and validation of composite structural and non-structural components. This includes working with composite structures from coupon testing through to large assemblies, as well as supporting the development of bonded and bolted composite joints and the design of composite-to-metalwork interfaces.

The successful candidate will possess experience in the verification and validation of composite structures using both pre-preg and resin infusion techniques. A proven ability to deliver complex programmes to time and budget, alongside strong independent work and critical self-review skills, is essential. You will also be involved in peer reviewing the work of engineering colleagues.

While this role has a specific focus, there are opportunities to engage with the group's broader work streams. These include propulsor and propeller design, dynamic stability, quasi-static stability, seakeeping, and the resistance and propulsion of surface ships and submarines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop capabilities in your areas of expertise and mentor others to enhance knowledge within the wider engineering and technical communities.
  • Apply composites subject matter expertise and sound engineering judgement to solve complex problems.
  • Break down complex tasks and execute planned schedules effectively.
  • Provide justification statements based on experience in validation and verification.
  • Deliver technical presentations and confidently discuss conducted work in external forums, including conferences and customer meetings.

Essential Experience:

  • Demonstrable experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Strong experience in verification and validation.
  • Understanding of composites and structural assessment, preferably within maritime structures.

Essential Qualifications:

  • BEng / MEng in Naval Architecture, Materials Engineering, or Mechanical/Structural Engineering, or equivalent knowledge gained through previous experience.

We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and educational paths. If you can demonstrate the required level of experience and a willingness to learn, we encourage you to apply.

This is a full-time role, 37 hours per week, based at our Gosport site.
