About the Role
At Babcock, we are dedicated to creating a safe and secure world, and as a Construction Manager at our Devonport Royal Dockyard site in Plymouth, you will play a crucial part in this mission. This permanent, full-time position involves delivering construction activities across key infrastructure programmes, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.
You will be instrumental in managing site operations, coordinating contractors, and maintaining compliance with regulatory and safety requirements within a highly controlled environment. This role offers the opportunity to lead complex construction projects that directly support defence capability, allowing you to influence outcomes, foster a strong safety culture, and develop your leadership skills within a purpose-driven organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day construction activities, ensuring safe and effective delivery of site works.
- Lead and coordinate contractors and site teams to deliver work packages according to plan.
- Author key construction documents and chair project and site meetings.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements across all activities.
- Support inspections, verification activities, and the continuous improvement of site operations.
What We're Looking For
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams in construction or installation projects.
- A strong understanding of construction practices, CDM regulations, and health and safety legislation.
- Experience working in regulated or safety-critical environments, ideally within the defence or nuclear sectors.
- Proven ability to manage contractors, contracts, and daily site operations.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with experience working across integrated teams.
Qualifications
- Construction Skills Certification Scheme Manager Card (Black card).
- Site Management Safety Training Scheme qualification.
- Temporary works or lifting qualifications are desirable.
- NVQ Level 6 or 7 in Construction Management is desirable.
Security Clearance
This role requires the successful candidate to be a sole UK National and to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance.
