The Controls and Automation Technical Support Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and validation of advanced control and instrumentation systems crucial for sustainable energy solutions. This includes work on microgrids, renewable generation, and energy storage systems.
What You Will Be Doing
This role involves full lifecycle responsibility for microgrid and distributed energy control systems, from initial concept through to deployment and ongoing operational support. The systems covered include:
- Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- Grid-connected and islanded microgrids
- Energy Management Systems (EMS) and SCADA interfaces
- Integration of third-party renewable energy sources
Your work will involve real-time control, automation, and optimisation algorithms, requiring integration across power systems, embedded software, and digital platforms. You will support both new designs and installations, as well as the optimisation of existing energy assets.
Key Responsibilities
- System design and analysis, including simulation and modelling.
- Verification, validation, and testing, with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Planning, documentation, and reporting activities.
Position Qualifications
- Minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience.
- Appropriate qualifications in Electrical Engineering or a similar relevant field, or demonstrable industry experience.
- Must have experience with B&R Automation Studio.
- Proficiency in IEC61131-3 Structured Text (ST).
- Strong background in control systems and power systems engineering.
- Experience with renewable energy systems and/or microgrids.
- Knowledge of energy management systems (EMS), SCADA, and real-time control.
- Understanding of UK Grid codes, power system dynamics, and energy markets.

- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and systems thinking skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills within multidisciplinary teams.
- Full and Clean Driving Licence.
- UK Passport Holder.
- Fluency in both written and spoken English.
