An opportunity for an IT Operations Specialist for High Performance Computing has arisen within Airbus Helicopters in Albacete, Spain.
The Role
You will be part of the E2E development domain team, delivering digital solutions for the end-to-end development process of our helicopters. Within the PSL Scientific Computing team, you will contribute to providing over 400 simulation engineers with a High Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure, pre- and post-processing tools, predictive applications, data management, and other simulation toolchain solutions.
As the IT Operations Specialist for High Performance Computing, you are the technical specialist for the HPC cluster infrastructure, which consists of high-end computers used to simulate various aspects of our aircraft. Working in conjunction with the Product Manager, you will be responsible for the optimization, reliability, efficiency, and availability of our HPC clusters in an industrialized manner, adhering to best practices, rules, and policies.
Your Challenges
- Ensure and monitor the availability, robustness, and performance of the different HPC clusters.
- Maintain the infrastructure (servers, middleware, network, storage, etc.) in operational condition in line with OLA/SLAs.
- Perform support processes including incident, problem, change, configuration, and event management.
- Analyze error reports, diagnose issues, and take corrective actions to ensure continuity of operations, involving other technical teams and vendors as needed.
- Coordinate the updating process for different HPC cluster components, LSF scheduler configuration, and deployed predictive solvers.
- Communicate and involve all relevant stakeholders, including end users, other Digital teams, vendors & subcontractors, management, and other Airbus divisions.
Skills Required
Must have:
- Familiarity with Linux server environments.
- Proficiency in scripting languages (bash, python, etc.).
- First experience with HPC systems (as user or administrator).
- Strong interest in deployment, operation, and maintenance of complex technical environments.
- Good communication skills.
- Fluent in English (business & technical), with a collaborative spirit and strong customer orientation.
Nice to have:
- Linux server administration (RHEL 7/8/9).
- Technical expertise in hardware infrastructure (servers, network switches etc.), network storage, network flows & firewall rules.
- Experience as an HPC administrator, including:
- HPC job scheduling (e.g., LSF or Slurm).
- Knowledge of high-speed interconnects (e.g., Infiniband) and High Performance Storage (e.g., Panasas).
- HPC node performance engineering.
- HPC applications (solver deployment).
