Driver and Ground Handler at Babcock - RAF Benson

At Babcock, we are dedicated to creating a safe and secure world. As a Driver and Ground Handler at our RAF Benson site, you will play an integral part in this mission. This role offers a unique opportunity within a small, friendly, and collaborative Transport Services team where pride in workmanship is paramount.

The Role

As a Driver and Ground Handler, you will be responsible for the safe and timely transportation of RAF personnel, vehicles, and equipment. Your daily duties will include:

  • Transporting recruits and station personnel between units and the local area using a range of vehicles.
  • Conducting detailed monthly checks of the vehicle fleet and reporting any defects to the Transport Control Office.
  • Preparing vehicles for significant events such as graduation days.
  • Wearing company-provided uniform as per company policy.

This is a full-time, permanent role based onsite at RAF Benson, near Oxfordshire. You will work an average of 39 hours per week on a shift basis, with early, day, and evening shifts available. While shift preferences will be considered and schedules are planned in advance, some flexibility may be occasionally required to meet operational needs.

Essential Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Experience driving a range of vehicles.
  • A good working knowledge of Driver's Hours Regulations in line with EU Directive 561/2006.
  • A CAT B Licence.
  • A Large Goods Vehicles (LGV) DVLA Licence Category C.
  • A Digital Tachograph Card.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain BPSS security clearance EDBS for this role. Please note that eligibility for certain roles may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency you hold or have held, due to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
