About the Role
As an Electrical Design Engineer at Babcock's Devonport Royal Dockyard site, you will play a crucial role in supporting the design, development, and enhancement of the electrical infrastructure that underpins critical defence operations. You will have the opportunity to work across the full design lifecycle, from initial concepts through to implementation, applying your engineering expertise to deliver high-quality design solutions that support national defence and major engineering programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake design activities across the full design lifecycle, including concept, scheme, detail, and implementation stages.
- Carry out site visits, surveys, and equipment assessments to inform design solutions.
- Capture and develop engineering requirements and produce 2D AutoCAD drawings.
- Create technical documentation such as design reports, equipment specifications, installation and commissioning specifications, and engineering management plans.
- Support implementation phases, including participating in Factory Acceptance Testing, Site Acceptance Testing, and commissioning activities.
Essential Experience
- Awareness of legislation, regulations, and standards relevant to power distribution systems and equipment.
- Understanding of electrical engineering principles for developing and maintaining power distribution systems.
- Ability to interpret and produce electrical engineering drawings.
- Experience working with SCADA systems.
- Experience in one or more of the following: HV/LV distribution, protection, switchgear, and HV/LV cabling is desirable.
Qualifications
- HNC in a relevant electrical engineering discipline, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
- Additional training or professional development in electrical power systems, SCADA technologies, or protection systems is desirable.
Working Arrangements
This role is full-time, 35 hours per week, and offers hybrid working arrangements with a minimum of 3 days in the office/onsite.
