Join BAE Systems and become an integral part of a team shaping the future of defence, aerospace, and security. As an Engineer – Materials Technology (Metallurgy), you will be a key player within the Materials Technology Department, contributing across Welding Engineering, Non-Metallics, R&D, and Additive Manufacturing.
This role is pivotal in supporting reactive, urgent issues that arise during build activities. You will provide essential onsite quality support to team leaders and collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders across Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and design teams.
Your responsibilities will include developing and delivering expert metallurgical advice, contributing to the establishment of standards and procedures, conducting investigations, performing weld assessments, reviewing suppliers, and evaluating new materials and manufacturing processes.
Core Duties:
- Provide metallurgical support across submarine build and commissioning activities.
- Advise engineering teams on materials, manufacturing processes, and corrosion management.
- Support welding assessment, supplier capability reviews, and the introduction of new materials and processes.
- Contribute to standards, procedures, risk assessments, and metallurgical investigations.
Essential Skills:
- A Degree (BEng/BSc) in Metallurgy or Materials Science, or an equivalent vocational qualification.
- Familiarity with both ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgical principles.
- Experience in metal forming and processing techniques.
You will join a dedicated team of four, focusing on reactive support for critical issues during the build phase. This is an opportunity to work on technology management and develop material solutions for existing engineering problems within submarine projects. Relocation support packages are available for eligible candidates for Submarines roles.
