About the Role

At Babcock, we are dedicated to creating a safe and secure world. We are looking for an Engineering Support Multi Skilled Operative to join our team at HMNB Clyde, near Helensburgh, Argyll and Bute. This is a crucial role within a highly skilled engineering environment, supporting some of the United Kingdom's most important defence assets. You will be an integral part of Fleet Engineering, contributing to the maintenance, availability, and performance of submarines, surface vessels, and essential estate infrastructure that underpins national security.

What You'll Do

As an Engineering Support Multi Skilled Operative, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting engineering teams in the safe and efficient delivery of planned preventative maintenance activities.
  • Assisting in the identification and rectification of system, manufacturing, and equipment defects across fleet and estate assets.
  • Operating and handling engineering support equipment in strict accordance with approved procedures and safe systems of work.
  • Ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and environmental requirements, including control of work processes.
  • Identifying opportunities for process improvements and supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the department.

The Details

This is a full-time, permanent position based on-site at HMNB Clyde. The standard working week is 36 hours, typically Monday to Thursday.

What You'll Need (Essential Experience)

  • Experience supporting engineering, maintenance, or operational activities in an industrial, marine, engineering, or defence environment.
  • Proficiency in working with engineering support equipment, such as scaffolding, forklift trucks, or slinging activities.
  • A solid understanding of manual handling practices and safe working procedures.
  • Proven experience in adhering to risk assessments, COSHH requirements, and safe systems of work.
  • Experience in controlling, issuing, and returning work equipment within a regulated environment.

Qualifications

  • Confined Spaces for Competent Persons certification.
  • Occasional Climber/Working at Heights certification.
  • Pristine Manual Handling certification.
  • Radiation Worker Training certification.
  • A full UK Driving Licence (Category B).

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National and will be required to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
