Environmental Practitioner - HMNB Clyde Faslane

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct environmental audits and compliance assessments to uphold environmental legislation, permits, and ISO 14001 standards.
  • Oversee and enhance the Environmental Management System, ensuring the effectiveness and compliance of processes and documentation.
  • Assist with United Kingdom Emissions Trading Scheme reporting, environmental permitting processes, and performance monitoring.
  • Investigate environmental incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing necessary corrective actions.
  • Deliver environmental guidance, conduct awareness training, and champion environmental improvement initiatives across the site.

Role Details:

This is a full-time position, 36 hours per week, with hybrid working arrangements. The role operates on an 8-day fortnight pattern, with working hours alternating weekly. Standard hours are Monday to Thursday, 07:15 – 16:45 one week, and Tuesday to Friday, 07:15 – 16:45 the following week.

Essential Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in conducting environmental audits and assessing compliance against environmental legislation, permits, and ISO 14001 requirements.
  • Proficient working knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems, including maintaining and enhancing environmental processes and documentation.
  • Experience supporting United Kingdom Emissions Trading Scheme reporting, environmental permitting, and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Proven experience in investigating environmental incidents, performing root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders, provide expert environmental guidance, and support continuous improvement within a regulated operational environment.

Qualifications:

  • Higher National Diploma, degree, or equivalent qualification in Environmental Studies, Environmental Management, or a related field.
  • ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Auditor or Lead Auditor qualification.
  • Knowledge of the United Kingdom Emissions Trading Scheme and environmental compliance obligations within a regulated environment is desirable.
  • Incident investigation training or qualification (e.g., Kelvin TopSet or equivalent) is desirable.

Security Clearance:

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national and will be required to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
