Join us as an Environmental Test Technician Specialist at our Shoeburyness site, where you will work with advanced technology alongside brilliant minds.

As an Environmental Test Technician Specialist, you will join a high-performing team of multi-disciplinary engineers delivering critical test & evaluation of defence munitions. This involves applying vibration, shock, climatic & radiography test programs.

Day-to-day, you’ll work within a team of senior engineers, providing technical supervision and leadership to test programs. You will assess asset performance within demanding environments that the systems will be subjected to throughout their operational life, simulating some of the most challenging environments globally to ensure systems are safe and suitable for service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading environmental test programmes, ensuring compliance with customer requirements, quality standards, and safety legislation.
  • Leading the design, planning, and execution of complex environmental trials, providing technical direction and support to team members.
  • Reviewing documentation, analysing test data, and producing high-quality reports with robust quality assurance checks.
  • Collaborating with customers and internal stakeholders, providing progress updates, solutions, and recovery plans where required.
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance testing capabilities, operational efficiency, and safety performance.
  • Developing, training, and mentoring team members, promoting knowledge sharing, professional growth, and a strong safety culture.

Essential Experience

  • Demonstrating technical leadership and accountability, with a proven track record of delivering complex engineering projects.
  • Applying a rigorous approach to compliance, safety, and best practice within test and engineering environments.
  • Utilising a strong engineering background, with knowledge of structural behaviour, analysis, and environmental testing principles.
  • Collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives and drive successful outcomes.
  • Using instrumentation, data analysis tools, and IT systems to support testing, reporting, and decision-making activities.

Essential Qualifications

  • Holding an HNC/HND (or equivalent) in an engineering or scientific discipline.

About the Location and Site

This role is 37 hours per week, based at our Shoeburyness site, requiring a minimum average site attendance of three days per week.

QinetiQ Shoeburyness is a significant test and evaluation facility specialising in defence and security technologies, focused on Environmental Testing including the evaluation of various ordnance, explosives and related systems. We implement measures to ensure testing activities comply with environmental regulations and minimise ecological impact.

Please note that all applicants for this role must be eligible for SC clearance, as a minimum.
