As an Environmental Test Technician, you will support the Environmental Engineers, set up and conduct trials, and at times lead trials with Technicians in accordance with the trial instruction, customer specification, and ETC procedures to successfully deliver trials. Day-to-day, you’ll support the Environmental Engineers on trials delivery, engaging with Project Engineers and customers where required, taking ownership, defining trial requirements, and providing overall support.
Your Responsibilities Will Include:
- Setting up and conducting trials within your competence in accordance with the trials programme, using trial instructions, customer specifications, and ETC working procedures.
- Checking all materials, equipment, instrumentation, rigs, and fixtures, and the test asset will be available in advance of the scheduled trial start date, informing of/acting on any shortfall in what is required.
- Supporting all environmental trial activities in accordance with the environmental trials programme.
- Supporting the Team Leaders to achieve effective workforce planning by reviewing the upcoming workload on your trial to maximise resource deployment and trial delivery.
- Making yourself available to other areas of the business when required to best suit the needs of the business.
- Developing yourself so you become multi-skilled across the different Environmental Testing sections in support of a resilient flexible capability.
Essential Experience and Qualifications:

- A good understanding of general engineering principles.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Good communication skills.
- The ability to collaborate and understand stakeholder’s needs and an active interest in broader business operations and communities.
- Demonstrable behaviours such as integrity, dedication, and initiative.
- HNC/HND or Degree qualification desirable, further study in a field of engineering or equivalent experience.
About the Site:
QinetiQ Shoeburyness is a significant test and evaluation facility specialising in defence and security technologies. The site is focused on Environmental Testing including the evaluation of various ordnance, explosives, and related systems. Implementing measures to ensure that testing activities comply with environmental regulations and minimise ecological impact.
Working Hours and Location:
This role is 37 hours per week based at our Shoeburyness site and is fully on-site.
