Plater/Fabricator Opportunities

As a Plater/Fabricator, you will have an out-of-the-ordinary role, working on a wide range of projects at the heart of our submarine maintenance programme. This is your opportunity to contribute to national defence and develop your skills within a dynamic and highly specialised environment. You will be part of a constructive production team, supporting the repair, maintenance, and modification of the UK’s fleet of submarines and warships.

What you’ll do:

  • Perform structural repairs to steel hulls and decks using burning and grinding techniques.
  • Fabricate and assemble plate and steelwork using specialist tools and equipment.
  • Cut, shape, and assemble steel plates and components.
  • Translate engineering documents into fabrication plans.
  • Install and join plate, steel, and structural materials.

Please note that the successful candidate will be required to pass a targeted medical questionnaire and/or medical examination as a condition of employment for this role.

There is an opportunity for Optimised Working Patterns (OWP) within this role, involving a 4-week shift cycle (day/back shift or day/night shift). Please contact the Recruitment Team for more information.

What you’ll need:

  • Proven experience in structural steel repair and fabrication.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Skilled in using fabrication tools and workshop machinery.
  • Experience in marine engineering or similar sectors (e.g., Royal Navy, RFA, commercial shipbuilding).
  • Strong understanding of safety and quality standards in heavy engineering environments.
  • Indentured Apprenticeship or Level 3 qualification in fabrication, structural steel, or sheet metal work (Essential).

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance for this role.
