First Line Manager Pipe Fitter

Join Babcock at our Devonport Royal Dockyard site and play a vital role in creating a safe and secure world as a First Line Manager Pipe Fitter. This is a hands-on leadership position where you will guide and develop a highly skilled team in performing complex pipe fitting work on some of the UK’s most advanced submarine platforms. Your technical proficiency and people management skills are crucial for delivering engineering outputs that are of high quality, safe, and completed on schedule, directly supporting national defence.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Leading and supervising a team of pipe fitters delivering repair, maintenance, and installation activities.
  • Planning and allocating work to meet programme, quality, and safety requirements.
  • Ensuring all activities comply with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Supporting team development through coaching, performance management, and skills growth.
  • Working closely with engineering, production, and project teams to deliver complex submarine work scopes.

About You:

We are looking for individuals with proven experience as a pipe fitter in manufacturing, repair, or heavy engineering environments. A strong understanding of health and safety practices in production or engineering settings is essential. While previous team supervision experience is valued, we are also keen to hear from candidates with the motivation and capability to step into a leadership role. Your background should include experience in repair, replacement, overhaul, or maintenance activities. Crucially, you will possess strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively lead, motivate, and engage a skilled workforce.

Qualifications:

  • ONC or NVQ Level 3 in a relevant mechanical or engineering discipline.
  • ILM Level 3 and IOSH qualifications are desirable (training can be provided).

Security Clearance:

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National and able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Eligibility may be affected by place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and residency.
