We are seeking a Flight Test Engineer Instructor to join our team at MOD Boscombe Down, where you will have the opportunity to work with advanced technology alongside exceptional professionals.

Key Responsibilities

As a Flight Test Engineer Instructor, you will leverage your expertise to deliver comprehensive instruction on a wide range of topics to aspiring flight test professionals. Your teaching abilities will be vital in ensuring world-class training for a diverse student body. You will also contribute to a collaborative and innovative environment within a team of Flight Test Engineer Instructors (FTEIs), Test Pilot Instructors (TPIs), and Theoretical Knowledge Instructors (TKIs).

  • Deliver and develop long course and short course ground instruction, as well as some in-flight instructional delivery, to both Test Pilot and Flight Test Engineer students.
  • Assess and grade ETPS student flying and technical reporting, providing constructive debriefing and feedback to enhance flight safety and accelerate learning.
  • Contribute to the course development and modernization of ETPS course syllabi, driving continuous improvement.

Essential Experience

  • Broad and extensive experience within the flight test community.
  • Ability to teach on the ground and instruct in the air, with the skill to clarify complex subject material for international students.
  • Sound knowledge of aircraft performance, systems, and stability & control, including testing methodologies and skilled use of typical flight test data analysis and reporting software.
  • Experience of the UK MoD’s Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT).

Essential Qualifications

  • Graduate Flight Test Engineer from one of the 4 UK MoD-recognised Test Pilot Schools (ETPS, USNTPS, USAFTPS, or EPNER) or equivalent standard.
  • An Engineering or Science degree coupled with at least 3 years of active work as a Licensed Flight Test Engineer (LFTE) or equivalent on significant modern flight test programmes.
  • Medically fit to gain a CAA Class 1 Medical.

Location and Working Hours

This role is based at MOD Boscombe Down, working 37 hours per week. Travel to other QinetiQ and customer sites will be expected.
