General Maintenance Supervisor - Skelton, Cumbria

As a General Maintenance Supervisor at our Skelton site, near Penrith, Cumbria, you will play a vital role in our growing Mission Systems business, which delivers world-class maritime, weapons, communications, and intelligence solutions.

This is a key leadership opportunity that directly supports national security and offers career development within the defence, aerospace, and engineering sector. You will lead a small, multi-skilled team responsible for essential site maintenance and facilities support, ensuring safe and compliant environments and driving operational efficiency. Your role will be central to maintaining the critical infrastructure that underpins defence operations.

This exciting position combines leadership, hands-on technical work, and continuous improvement in a fast-paced engineering environment. You will contribute to shaping maintenance strategies, enhancing safety standards, and the success of important national programmes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise a small team of estate and household maintenance workers.
  • Oversee and develop Health and Safety processes on site to ensure compliance with relevant ISO standards.
  • Develop maintenance procedures, policies, and schedules for household and estate maintenance teams.
  • Maintain technical and administration records, providing information as required and liaising with other technical teams to ensure work completion.
  • Supervise contracted staff to ensure work is carried out to agreed standards and respond to required maintenance works.
  • Undertake estate and household maintenance as required, evaluating estates and buildings to determine necessary maintenance work.

Essential Experience and Qualifications:

  • Possession of a current full UK driving licence.
  • Demonstrable experience of general building maintenance and cleaning techniques.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of current safe working practices and safety procedures.
  • Basic computer skills including email, Word, and spreadsheets.
  • CSE or GCSE grade D – E, or NVQ level 2.

Security Clearance:

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) and Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance for this role.
