About the Role
At Babcock, we're dedicated to creating a safe and secure world. As a Health, Safety and Environmental Advisor based at our Rosyth site, you will play a crucial role within our submarine operations. This is an out-of-the-ordinary opportunity to be embedded within complex engineering activities in a highly regulated nuclear environment. You will influence safety performance where it matters most, partnering directly with operational teams to manage risk, drive continuous improvement, and contribute to vital defence programmes that safeguard national security.
Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Providing expert health, safety, and environmental advice to operational teams, managers, and stakeholders.
- Conducting workplace inspections, audits, and safety reviews to identify hazards and promote best practices.
- Supporting risk assessments and reviewing safe systems of work to ensure compliance with company standards and legislation.
- Investigating incidents, accidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and driving corrective actions.
- Collaborating with engineers, contractors, and project teams to deliver safety improvements and foster a positive safety culture.
What We're Looking For
Essential experience includes a background in a health, safety, and environmental advisory role within high-risk industries such as marine, shipbuilding, engineering, power generation, manufacturing, or construction. You will need a proven ability to influence operational teams and managers to effectively manage risk and maintain safe working practices. Experience in conducting inspections, audits, and compliance reviews, along with investigating incidents and near misses (including root cause analysis), is essential. A strong working knowledge of United Kingdom health and safety legislation within a highly regulated environment is also required.
Qualifications and Desirable Skills
- NEBOSH Certificate (Level 3) in Occupational Health and Safety, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- IOSH membership or membership of a similar professional body is desirable.
- Working knowledge of Construction Design and Management Regulations is desirable.
- Experience of nuclear industry standards, regulatory frameworks, or other highly regulated environments would be advantageous.
Security Clearance Requirement
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
