About the Company

We are a highly innovative and rapidly growing defence and technology company, designing, developing, and delivering advanced defence training, products, and services. Recognised for our excellence, we've been crowned Employer of the Year and listed among the UK's 'Best Companies'. Our friendly team consists of experienced professionals working with a mature 'can-do' work ethic in modern offices, with many specialists embedded alongside our Defence customers.

The Role

Mission Training Devices (MTD) is seeking a talented Technical Author and Test Engineer to join our expanding team in preparation for exciting upcoming opportunities. This role involves creating and maintaining customer-facing documentation for our diverse range of MTD products, from mixed-reality trainers to software-only simulations. Responsibilities include producing professional operation and engineering manuals, maintenance procedures, and user guides.

Additionally, you will lead the creation of Acceptance Test Procedures (ATPs), oversee testing execution and recording, and feed results into development processes or customer reports. Further development opportunities include creating 'how-to' video guides for customers and developing DSAT-compliant training courses. You will work closely with the MTD Customer Support Coordinator and systems/software teams.

The role requires frequent travel to Boscombe Down for face-to-face meetings and hardware work, with approximately twice-monthly visits expected, including overnight stays. We are open to applications from across the UK.

The Person

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual passionate about self-improvement, expanding knowledge, and working on cutting-edge concepts. A foundational understanding of, or willingness to learn, the core principles of training, simulation, and emerging technologies is key. You should possess strong problem-solving abilities and a desire to enhance them.

We seek experienced professionals who can integrate seamlessly into our growing team. While collaboration is essential, you will also need to work independently on smaller projects. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are vital for participating in team meetings, peer reviews, and discussions. A high level of professionalism is expected, including participation in team and company activities.

Due to the nature of the role, applicants must be UK Nationals. Successful candidates may be required to complete National Security Vetting, which can include criminal record, security service, and credit reference checks. Qualification typically requires a minimum of 5 years' UK residency.

Benefits

  • 30 days paid holiday plus 8 bank holidays per year.
  • Uncapped paid leave scheme (upon successful completion of probation).
  • Company-provided private medical and dental insurance.
  • QinetiQ Share Incentive Scheme.
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity pay.
  • Annual profit and performance-related pay scheme.
  • Death in service (4x salary).
  • Company contributions to a group personal pension scheme.
  • Business travel insurance.
  • Tax-efficient schemes (cycle to work, charitable giving, electric vehicle company car).
