Lead Data Architect - Malvern

Are you ready to be part of the future? At QinetiQ, we are creating tomorrow's defence technology today. We are looking for a Lead Data Architect to join our Data Science, Engineering and Assurance group at our Malvern site. This is a unique opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology alongside some of the most brilliant minds in the industry.

The Role

As a Lead Data Architect, you will take ownership of the Data Architecture and develop the Data Migration Plan. You will be responsible for the evolution, adoption, and deployment of this plan into secure customer environments. You will set the technical direction, make pragmatic architectural decisions, and provide hands-on leadership to a team of Data Engineers and Analysts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Map and document data flows, identifying the location and movement of unstructured and structured data within and between systems.
  • Design and maintain data architecture, defining how data is structured, stored, and accessed across systems.
  • Maintain and refine the target architecture and roadmap, establishing standards and governance to blend strategy with delivery.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams to ensure designs are buildable, testable, and supportable.

Essential Experience:

  • Extensive experience in data architecture, including ownership of architecture on complex programmes.
  • Proven ability to take an established architecture and evolve it through clear roadmaps, standards, patterns, and governance.
  • Strong knowledge of data governance, including metadata, lineage, data quality, stewardship, and lifecycle management.
  • Ability to lead engineers with clear technical direction, pragmatic decisions, and mentoring in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Previous experience designing and governing architecture for constrained environments.
  • Experience operating as a Data Architect with a strong security mindset.

Location and Working:

This role is based in Malvern, working 37 hours per week. Hybrid working patterns are available. Occasional travel to customer sites will be required.
