About the Role
Join the Airbus Defence & Space Military Aircraft Simulation Domain and become a key player in the development of advanced Engineering and Training Simulations for the European MALE RPAS (Eurodrone) programme. As the Lead Simulation Software Developer, you will spearhead the "Simulation-Specific Components" (SSC) group, ensuring the seamless integration of specialized simulation models and components within the Joint Model Office (JMO). This role is pivotal in establishing a new virtual engineering approach for the Eurodrone program, supporting its entire development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordination & Technical Leadership: Lead the SSC group, overseeing the development of models and components based on system requirements. Coordinate the development and pre-integration of simulation frameworks, test support systems, and dedicated services, including in-house and third-party components.
- Software Development & Engineering: Design software architectures for new simulation tools and models. Develop and maintain high-fidelity simulation models covering aircraft sensors, tactical environments, communication, visualization, and aircraft equipment. Implement sophisticated software components, primarily in C++.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure all software and models meet the high-fidelity and reliability standards of the JMO through rigorous unit, integration, and system testing. Create tools for automation, build pipelines, and code generation.
- Collaboration: Act as a key technical point of contact within the JMO, supporting architects and integration teams with bug investigation and change requests. Maintain structured communication with the Joint Model Office and Model Development Teams. Organize and chair JMO meetings as defined in the project plan.
- International Collaboration: Work in an international environment with opportunities for international travelling and foster flexible working arrangements.
What We're Looking For
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience: Extensive experience in software development within complex, large-scale systems. Experience in coordinating technical tasks or leading small development groups is highly desirable. Deep expertise in software design, procedural, and object-oriented programming. Proven experience in unit, integration, and system testing. Strong background in distributed systems and simulation frameworks.
- Technical Skills: Profound knowledge of C/C++ (Expert level). Knowledge of distributed systems and simulation frameworks. Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python), build systems (e.g., CMake), packaging, QT Framework, Linux/Windows, version control systems, Atlassian tools (Confluence, Jira), and CI/CD or DevOps tools (e.g., Jenkins).
- Work Methods & Soft Skills: Strong communication skills, ability to structure workflows, manage meetings, familiarity with agile working methods, and ability to work independently in an international environment.
- Languages: Business fluent English. German, Spanish, French, or Italian are a plus.
