Lead Supportability Engineer

Leonardo UK is seeking an experienced Lead Supportability Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is integral to our programmes, engaging from the initial bid phase through development, production, customer support, and eventual disposal. We welcome applications from individuals with strong industry backgrounds in Electronics/Hardware or Systems engineering, not exclusively in Supportability.

As a Lead Engineer, you will manage and develop a team of Supportability Engineers, delivering a wide range of engineering work packages. You will collaborate closely with Project Managers, Operations, and Project Engineering Managers within Integrated Project Teams, providing expert advice on Supportability requirements, performing analysis, and offering guidance. Your leadership will ensure the successful execution of tasks critical to product lifecycle management.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Leading and developing a team of Supportability Engineers.
  • Ensuring the completion of a broad range of Supportability analysis and deliverables, including:
    • Reliability Analysis: Developing component to system level reliability models using methodologies like Reliability Block Diagrams for various system types.
    • Reliability Testing and Simulation: Creating models and plans for reliability growth, failure mode identification, and corrective actions.
    • Maintainability Analysis: Conducting modular to system level analysis addressing Human Factors and Maintenance Task Analysis for optimal operational capability.
    • Testability Analysis: Completing FMECA analysis to assess fault detection and isolation effectiveness, feeding improvements back into the design process.
    • Product Safety: Conducting hazard and environment impact analyses, contributing to safety cases and fault tree analysis.
    • Production Support: Analysing production and in-service failure data to identify root causes and corrective actions.
    • Support Strategy: Developing In-Service Support strategies incorporating through-life cost modelling.
  • Ensuring project milestones are completed on schedule and within budget while maintaining technical quality.
  • Providing expert input into Life Cycle Management reviews.
  • Working within Integrated Project Teams to reduce cost and risk across the product lifecycle and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Chairing Sector Project Cost Review Boards (PCRBs).

What You'll Bring:

  • A Degree in a relevant engineering or science discipline.
  • Proven industry, defence, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong experience in leading and developing teams.
  • Commercial and business awareness.
  • Experience in engineering management and delivery of project work packages.
  • Ability to manage complex situations with sound judgement and balance conflicting challenges.
  • Experience supporting products throughout their entire lifecycle and working in multi-disciplinary teams implementing DfX methodologies (Design for Supportability, Reliability, Maintenance, Testability, Safety).
  • Experience with Failure Modes Effects & Criticality Analysis (FMEA/FMECA).
  • Knowledge of relevant UK and International Standards for Safety and RMT.
  • Availability analysis and modelling experience.
  • Beneficial tools and packages: MS Office, PTC Windchill, Matlab/Simulink, Power BI, JIRA, and Python.
