About the Role
This position is centred on guiding and developing engineers, offering them technical direction, supporting their wellbeing, and nurturing their career growth. You will collaborate across various teams to identify effective technical solutions, contribute to key strategic project decisions, and ensure the smooth implementation of initiatives. A significant aspect of this role involves a deep understanding of project scope, timelines, and resource requirements, coupled with providing regular advice to managers on team capacity and skill needs. You will also ensure that all necessary dependencies and facilities are in place for successful project delivery. Furthermore, you will support the wider business by preparing bid estimates and diligently maintaining schedules and budgets for ongoing projects.
Core Duties
- Provide guidance and support to less experienced engineers, championing team member wellbeing and career development.
- Utilise your understanding of package of work scope, size, and time phasing to facilitate and contribute to project success.
- Assess team size and skillset requirements, providing regular status updates and recommendations on resourcing to project and functional engineering managers.
- Support the business by creating new estimates for bids and maintaining the schedule and budget for ongoing projects.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated experience in the systems engineering domain and product lifecycle.
- Familiarity with system engineering tools such as DOORS, Siemens Polarion, Enterprise Architect, CAMEO, MATLAB, and/or Simulink.
- Proven experience in leading a team and making decisions from either a technical or managerial perspective.
- A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant Scientific/Engineering subject (e.g., Systems Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Aerospace, Physics, or Mathematics).
The Systems Engineering Team
The Systems Engineering Team provides essential support to the functional department and projects by managing work package scope, scheduling, resources, and strategy for the project's systems domain. Your role will involve working closely with Engineering Project Managers to understand both the near-term (3-6 months) and longer-term (18-24 months) work plans. You will be responsible for leading a team of highly capable engineers to deliver against your plans and estimates.
