Manufacturing Engineer
Babcock is seeking a dedicated Manufacturing Engineer to join their team at Ashton Vale, near Nailsea, Bristol. This is a full-time, permanent role contributing to the creation of a safe and secure world through defence engineering.
The Role
As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will be instrumental in building both current and future defence systems, specifically within launch and handling technologies. Your work will directly contribute to shaping the future of submarine capability. This role provides an excellent opportunity to continually develop your knowledge and expertise in manufacturing, leveraging Babcock's track record of innovation.
You will act as the product owner for a variety of machined components and assembled sub-systems. This involves providing technical expertise in the development, launch, and support of manufacturing methods for complex components and assemblies. Maintaining product support throughout its manufacturing lifecycle will require close liaison with various production, procurement, and engineering stakeholders. Additionally, you will support the estimation and design of brand new, innovative components, ensuring their suitability for manufacture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the product owner for a range of machined parts and assemblies, both simple and highly complex.
- Provide technical expertise in the development, launch, and support of manufacturing methods for a wide range of machined products and assemblies.
- Maintain product support throughout its manufacturing lifecycle, liaising with various production, procurement, and engineering stakeholders.
- Support the estimation and design of new, innovative designs ensuring they are suitable for manufacture.
- Support technical investment projects, engaging with key stakeholders and aligning outcomes to budgets and improvements.
This is a full-time, on-site role, working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Essential Experience:
- Strong experience in milling and turning, with the ability to resolve complex manufacturing challenges.
- Proven experience estimating machining and assembly processes from 2D drawings and 3D models.
- Ability to interpret and work to technical drawings, with knowledge of GD&T requirements.
- Computer literate and able to pick up new software/ERP (IFS/SAP etc).
- Understanding of various work holding options and the design of innovative fixture methods.
- A background in manufacturing engineering is beneficial.
Security Clearance:
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance for this role. Applicants must be sole UK nationals.
