Materials Capability Acquisition Engineer

Rolls-Royce is looking for an experienced Materials Capability Acquisition Engineer to join our Materials Engineering Team. This is a critical role in a major development programme, focusing on shaping production readiness for advanced metallic materials, heat treatment processes, and joining technologies, aligning with our Net Zero ambitions and the development of low-emission combustion technologies.

What you will be doing:

• Take ownership of delivering complex materials characterisation work packages through the full technology development lifecycle, leading expert contributors and ensuring milestones are achieved on time and within budget.
• Manage inputs from metallurgical experts to compile high-standard reports and project review packs for technical committees.
• Plan, develop, and run metallic materials characterisation testing programs at external test houses to de-risk and address knowledge gaps.
• Resolve problems through evaluative judgements and act as a key point of contact for subject matter expertise within Materials Capability Acquisition.
• Understand company business objectives and ensure work aligns with company values and professional engineering standards.
• Actively promote and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain and develop an external network to deliver relevant technology and stay aware of competitive positions and emerging technologies.
• Identify and exploit appropriate internal and/or external funding opportunities.

Position qualifications:

• Technically credible leader driving key development programmes and ensuring production readiness across advanced metallic materials, heat treatment processes, and joining technologies.
• Bachelor's degree, Master's degree or PhD in Engineering or equivalent technical capability based on practical knowledge and experience.
• Proven technical leadership and teamwork skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently on time and within budget.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and technical report writing skills.
• Sound understanding of metallurgy; knowledge in high temperature nickel alloys is advantageous.
• Structured, goal-oriented, resilient work attitude with high motivation to solve challenges in a team.
• Ability to apply logical, analytical, and innovative thinking to technical problems.
• Knowledge and experience of product integrity/liability and certification frameworks.
• Membership in a relevant professional body and attained/working towards Chartered status is preferred.

To work for the Rolls-Royce Defence business, an individual must hold a Security Check (SC) clearance.
