Mechanical Engineer - Devonport Royal Dockyard

About the Role
In this position, you will be instrumental in the design and configuration of mechanical handling systems that are vital to the UK's defence infrastructure. You will serve as the technical authority, providing expert design consultancy for a range of mechanical handling assets, including cranes and lifting equipment, across the Devonport site.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical authority for mechanical handling systems.
- Deliver design consultancy for new capabilities and modifications.
- Support the maintenance and configuration of existing systems.
- Collaborate effectively with project teams to ensure timely delivery of objectives.
- Ensure strict compliance with all relevant safety and quality standards.
This is a full-time, permanent role, working 35 hours per week, with hybrid working arrangements that include a minimum of 2 days per week in the office/onsite.
Essential Experience:
- Demonstrated experience in the design and substantiation of mechanical systems and components.
- A strong understanding of relevant engineering regulations, legislation, and standards.
- Proficiency in performing hand calculations and finite element analysis (FEA).
- Ability to interpret and produce detailed mechanical and electrical engineering drawings.
- Familiarity with crane systems, lifting equipment, and mechanical handling safety principles.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or extensive proven experience in the field.
- Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards it is considered advantageous.
Security Clearance:
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national and will be required to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role. Eligibility for certain roles may be affected by place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and residency status.
