Mechanical Engineer

About the Role

As a Mechanical Engineer at BAE Systems, you will be instrumental in delivering key Warship Technical Authority (WTA) service elements. This encompasses crucial areas such as design change, technical assurance, material state and obsolescence management, specialist engineering support, and future support or transformation planning.

This role is part of the Mechanical Engineering Hub within Asset Management. You will have the opportunity to contribute to a variety of exciting programmes and services, including Type 45, Minehunters, Queen Elizabeth Class Carriers, Type 23s & Offshore Patrol Vessels, International Naval Programmes, and the Material State Management Service. As part of the Asset Management business, you will also engage in exciting future developments aligned with customer strategy.

Core Duties

• Provide mechanical engineering support across diverse platform systems, equipment, and critical marine services.
• Deliver engineering input to multiple projects, including CSM platforms and international naval programmes.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to clarify and manage platform system requirements.
• Maintain systems design integrity across varied engineering contexts, classes, and programme deployments.
• Support investigations, impact assessments, and integration analyses to enable evidence-based and data-driven technical decisions.
• Ensure the safe and efficient implementation of design changes while maintaining configuration control and system integration.

Essential Skills and Experience

• Broad knowledge of complex platform systems across UK and international markets.
• Good understanding of applicable industry standards and the ability to operate effectively within CSM, LCM, and other governance and assurance frameworks.
• Ability to apply mechanical engineering knowledge quickly and confidently to a wide range of platform systems, sub-systems, and equipment.
• Evidence of formal mechanical engineering qualifications.

The Asset Management Team

This role is situated within the Warship Technical Authority (WTA) Service Hub, a key part of the Asset Management team within Warship Support. The team delivers whole ship, systems, and equipment engineering expertise and change management to ensure safe, assured, and high-quality support across Warship Support programmes. The Asset Management Team supports QEC, T45, T23, HUNT, OPV, and international navies, delivering services such as Material State Management.
