Mechanical Fitter - Helensburgh, Argyll and Bute

Help Keep the Royal Navy Operational. At Babcock, we are seeking a skilled Mechanical Fitter to join our team at Faslane, near Helensburgh. This essential role contributes directly to the operational readiness of the Royal Navy's fleet.

As a Mechanical Fitter, you will be at the forefront of our Waterfront operations, carrying out critical mechanical fitting activities. Your work will ensure complex engineering systems operate safely, efficiently, and reliably, directly supporting national security and community protection. This is a hands-on engineering role with significant purpose and opportunities for career progression.

You will join a dedicated, highly skilled team focused on engineering excellence, continuous improvement, and professional development, providing a platform to enhance your expertise and make a tangible impact daily.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete planned preventative maintenance to meet operational targets.
  • Undertake defect and repair activities on Waterfront mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Adhere to all Health & Safety legislation, Safe Systems of Work, and BM&T Clyde procedures.
  • Operate Waterfront systems and equipment in accordance with relevant procedures.
  • Propose improvements to systems and processes to enhance safety and productivity.

This is a full-time position, working 36 hours per week from Monday to Thursday, granting you a three-day weekend. The role is based at our Faslane site.

Essential Experience:

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter.
  • Knowledge and practical experience with mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Ability to accurately interpret engineering drawings.
  • Comfortable with manual tasks, including lifting, bending, and tool usage.

Qualifications:

  • Essential: NVQ/SVQ Level 3 in a mechanical discipline or an equivalent qualification.
  • Preferred: Additional mechanical or engineering-related training or certifications.

Security Clearance:

The successful candidate will be required to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance. Please note that eligibility for certain roles may be influenced by your nationality, place of birth, and residency history, in line with national security and Trade Control restrictions.
