Mission Systems Engineer – Product Safety

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Product Safety Engineer to join our Mission System Product Safety Team, working on the next generation Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP). This role is part of the Mission Systems Delivery Team (MSDT), focusing on the Concepting and Assessment Phase of the Future Combat Air System (FCAS) programme. You will be responsible for generating and reviewing safety engineering artefacts, providing crucial support to the aircraft safety team, flight systems team, and associated disciplines.

You will collaborate with all Mission System logical domain teams across the programme, actively involved in novel design implementation and associated safety engineering. This hybrid role, based in Warton, offers a salary of £51,772+ DOE and the opportunity to build a career with purpose.

Core Duties:

  • Perform detailed safety assessment work in accordance with defined GCAP safety procedures.
  • Provide safety engineering support to the Mission System domain at all levels of system design.
  • Provide technical expertise, supporting and/or leading activities for Mission Systems within a multi-functional engineering team.
  • Generate and review detailed Fault Tree Analyses and System Functional Hazard Assessments.
  • Review safety-related artefacts.
  • Provide guidance on the implementation of safety requirements, safety objectives, hardware implementation safety standards, and software safety standards.
  • Attend multi-national safety working groups meetings across all levels of design.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • A degree or equivalent in a STEM subject.
  • Experience in performing Hazard analysis and/or risk safety assessments.
  • An understanding of the software development environment and the design principles of complex electronic hardware.
  • A general understanding of ARP4754, ARP4761, DO-254, and DO-178 would be desirable.
