Modelling and Simulation Engineer - FCAS Synthetics

We are seeking a talented Modelling and Simulation Engineer to join our FCAS Synthetics Team at BAE Systems in Warton. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for delivering a cutting-edge synthetic integration capability, employing a Model-Driven Simulation approach to provide comprehensive through-life support for the FCAS programme.

Your work will be instrumental in enabling early model integration, which is key to increasing confidence in designs and significantly reducing risk as we progress through the development lifecycle. Furthermore, you will play a vital role in supporting test & evaluation, certification, and qualification activities by reducing the reliance on physical testing through the generation of evidence via models and simulations.

Core Duties:

  • Developing and running a synthetic fighter jet testing environment.
  • Developing and running a pilot-in-the-loop simulator for fighter jets.
  • Integrating and testing models into the simulation environment.
  • Improving simulator realism and usability, including the integration of external hardware and software.
  • Running and flying the simulators, tuning and providing feedback on their performance, and supporting pilot test sessions.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • A degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science.
  • The ability to discuss and communicate technical concepts effectively.
  • Experience with functional programming languages such as Simulink/Matlab, Python, Java, or C#/C++.
  • Exposure to modelling and simulation tools, and/or experience with Siemens Teamcentre, NI Veristand/LabVIEW, version control software (GIT), Atlassian Jira/Confluence, or Agile workflows (e.g., Scrum/Kanban).
