The Role: Mechanical Supervisor
The Mechanical Supervisor will be an integral part of the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) organisation within BDUK, supporting key programmes. This position requires ensuring established process adherence, accurate work recording, and contractual/regulatory compliance. Reporting to an Operations Lead, the role involves direct control, oversight, and mentoring of technicians, with responsibility for planning, sequencing, distributing, and controlling technical work for a team of aircraft technicians.
Key responsibilities include providing effective leadership and guidance, ensuring all aircraft paperwork is completed in accordance with company procedures, and obtaining company supervisory authorisations on specific aircraft types. The role demands a collaborative approach, modelling Airmanship, Husbandry, and Health & Safety practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver aircraft maintenance under Boeing’s MAA MRP Part 145 approval or MOD customer approval.
- Perform assembly, disassembly, modification, and component replacement/upgrades on aircraft systems.
- Conduct routine troubleshooting of complex aircraft systems (pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical/electronic) and repair faulty components per authorised maintenance documents.
- Be flexible with work locations and times to ensure timely aircraft delivery.
- Provide advice, guidance, and mentoring to peers and other team members.
- Mitigate immediate risks, including 'stop work' authority, and escalate emerging risks and shortfalls.
- Contribute to continuous improvement workshops and projects.
- Provide 100% oversight of work carried out by Boeing Apprentices or Trainees, including mentoring.
- Contribute positively to an open and honest reporting culture.
- Achieve 2nd signature authorisations on type within the first 3 months.
Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, the ability to manage demanding workloads while maintaining high standards and schedules, and the capability to understand and interpret technical documents, drawings, and associated publications. A working knowledge of MAA Regulatory Articles (RA), MAA Regulatory Publication (MRP) Part 145, Aviation Quality Assurance (QA), and Safety Management System (SMS) is essential, along with the application of these requirements within their area of responsibility.
Basic Qualifications:
- Fluent written and spoken English.
Preferred Experience:
- Recognised relevant trade apprenticeship or equivalent trade experience.
- Knowledge of general aircraft maintenance and processes (Human Factors, FOD control, tool control, health & safety & COSHH).
- Experience in either commercial or defence aviation.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to be an effective team member within an inclusive working culture.
Security Clearance
This position requires the ability to obtain UK security clearance (SC) post-start. UK residency is required by the UK Government for this clearance. The successful candidate will hold, or be able to obtain, Security Clearance (SC).
